Observation and Culturing Tips
- Spread a thin layer of collected muddy water on a petri dish and scan under the microscope.
- Providing moderate light with an LED or fiber-optic light source allows you to observe phototaxis (swimming toward light) in specimens that possess chloroplasts.
- To culture them, add a tiny amount of an extremely diluted dry yeast solution once a week to avoid fouling the water. This allows you to maintain and observe the colonies long-term.
